The Joys of Growth Spurts

Please excuse my absence, I haven't had a chance to use my computer in a week! Babycakes has been in the middle of a growth spurt and a developmental leap. Needless to say, she has not wanted to leave my arms. She wanted to eat all.day.long. When she wasn't eating, she was 'dozing'. Not truly napping but just taking quick little cat naps so I never had enough time to put her down before she woke up. My parents and my in-laws have both commented that although my husband I were both fussy babies, neither one of us was as fussy or demanding as our little babycakes! Oh joy.
Even though it's been quite an exhausting and demanding week, I'm loving every second with my baby girl cuddled in my arms. I know I will miss this one day when she is running around like a crazy little lady so I will take all the time I can get with her wrapped up in my arms!
Babycakes has been napping for an hour already today, so I'm calling that a small victory. I was really reluctant to put her down, but I thought it would probably be a good thing if I could do a few things for myself today. I'm thinking I may spend some time on pinterest looking for some great recipes to use with peaches and/or blueberries. We have been going to our local orchard and picking blueberries and buying other wonderful farm fresh goodies. In the past week, we have been three times! Obsessed much?! Yesterday, we bought peaches, tomatoes, a red onion, zucchini, swiss chard and corn. I love buying fresh produce. Not only do I get to support a local farm but the produce just tastes so much better. Grocery store tomatoes have no flavor compared to garden fresh. I'll be sad when the harvest season is over but at least I have a few more months to feed my new little obsession.

Where'd the Cuteness Go?

Don't mind the bare blog, I'm in the middle of a re-design but that takes longer than nap time! It'll be back to looking cute soon (I hope)!!

In the meantime, Babycakes can add to the cute factor!

Busy, Busy Weekend!

I have been absent from the blogging world for the past few days but for good reason! I spent last Thursday celebrating my birthday with my little family. I love to shop so my husband took me and babycakes shopping at the outlets. We've brought babycakes shopping with us at places like Target or the grocery store but this was our first big shopping outing with her. Since babycakes is breastfed, I made sure to pump enough milk to bring with us so we could bottle feed. She is not new to a bottle, she has a few a week so my husband can feed her or for when we're out and I'm not sure if there will be somewhere for me to breastfeed. I'm not against breastfeeding in public, I'm just not comfortable doing it. Since the outlet malls are very public places with very little privacy anywhere, I made sure I had twice enough milk with us than I knew we would need, just in case.

Setting a Schedule

My experience teaching  pre-k has taught me how important transitions are to young children. That being said, transitions with my newborn are a whole new ballgame. For the past 7 weeks, I've been following a baby led schedule. As we're approaching Babycakes 2nd month, I've been starting to think about some sort of schedule. Since Babycakes is exclusively breastfed, our schedule will predominantly be dictated by when she wants to eat and for how long she wants to eat. For two days, our schedule has played out like this:

It's just so Pinteresting

I have a serious addiction to Pinterest. When I first got pinterest, I was in heaven. It opened up a whole new world of organization, recipes, children's activities, DIY, and decoration inspiration. I was smitten. Actually, it was more like love at first sight. To make my pins easier to browse, I organized them by different categories that are relevant to me. Since I have pinned hundreds of recipes, I decided to make different boards for different types of food. For example, I have beef, pork, chicken, pasta, veggie and dessert boards. I find it frustrating when I am browsing food boards with all different kinds of food in one place. How are you supposed to find what you are looking for? By organizing my boards by food type, it makes it easier to find recipe inspiration in the hundreds of recipes I've pinned for what I'm craving when making my weekly menus and grocery lists. You can follow me on pinterest for some great food, drink, home decor and outfit inspiration!
For me, one of my favorite things about pinterest is discovering new blogs. While pinning today, I came across a great baking blog and as I was browsing the blog, I pinned so many recipes. One day when babycakes actually naps for longer than 30 minutes at a time, I might get to try some. Today, I found these recipes that I would love to try asap! Happy pinning!

Finally!

My babycakes has been smiling during her active sleep stage since she was about a week or week and a half old. She started smiling socially at about 4 weeks old but trying to catch her smile on camera was like trying to get a picture of the loch ness monster! As fast as her smile would come, it would go away. It would disappear before I could even think about grabbing the camera or my phone she would be back to frowning. In the last few days, her 'sunny side' had finally started to come through. She has been a very curious and alert baby since birth but in the last week or so she has been doing some serious focusing on our faces, voices and interactions with her. Her new found interest in social interactions has lead to more 'play time', focusing more on her books during story time and practicing her coo's and ahh's. It also meant being able to see her beautiful smile more often and for longer periods of time. Because she was smiling longer, I was finally able to catch it on camera...yay!

Meet my Babycakes!

This post has been long, long overdue! My beautiful little babycakes was born in May of 2012 and boy did my life change! I'm not going to post my birth story at this moment, as it was long and slightly traumatic but maybe one day I will. As much as you prepare for it, you can never be fully prepared for life with your first child! My beautiful little baby girl was only 6lb. 1oz at birth and 20 inches long. I may be slightly biased but I think she is the most beautiful baby girl I've ever seen!
I am trying to resurrect my blog as I have been very, very neglectful in past months but it is very difficult to find time to post when you have a baby who doesn't nap. That's right, she is not a sleeper. Lots of newborns sleep all day and seem to almost never be awake. Not my babycakes. Even at a week old she would stay awake for hours at a time, take a short nap, be awake for hours, and so on and so on. Although her sleeping habits leave me exhausted, I'm loving every minute of my life with my baby girl!
When I have the chance, I will be blogging about life with babycakes, different recipes to try and even some DIY projects I'll be taking on. Until then, here are some looks at my little babycakes newborn photo session. These were taken at 6 days old.

Isn't she beautiful?! Love, love, love my little babycakes!
